On race day, runners of both the 5K and 10K will wind through downtown Mountain City and up to the high school, cheered on by local groups offering water, snacks, and encouragement. 5K Runners will return to Ralph Stout Park, while the 10K stretches into the farmland north of town before returning to the park — a challenging course set against the beauty of Johnson County.\

The Mammoth 5K and 10K raises funds for extracurricular programs at Johnson County High School and Johnson County Middle School — the programs that often shape students long after the final bell rings.

“Extracurricular activities are an essential part of a student’s education,” says Dr. Stephen Long, principal of Johnson County High School. “For many students, these programs are where they learn teamwork, perseverance, and community.”

From robotics to choir, from theater to track, many of these programs operate quietly — without the ticket sales that sustain higher-profile sports. Yet for many students, they are where confidence is built, friendships are formed, and lifelong lessons take root.
